Mississauga, ON – January 31, 2023 – Trillium Health Partners (THP) is honoured to be recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals of 2022, by Research Infosource Inc.

This is the first time THP has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals. Each year, Research Infosource Inc. ranks the top research hospitals across Canada by looking at the total research spending, number of researchers, research intensity and overall spending. THP’s research and innovation engine, the Institute for Better Health (IBH) is thrilled to join this list alongside preeminent research institutions from across the country.
THP believes in curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning. It embeds applied research, innovation, and rapid-cycle learning to solve real life problems to support the diverse and growing community THP serves. IBH is a core enabler of THP’s mission of a new kind of health care for a healthier community through the application of scientific expertise, innovative thinking, and partnerships.

“We are thrilled to be named one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals and to share this honour with many leading organizations across the country,” said Dr. Robert Reid, Hazel McCallion Research Chair in Learning Health Systems and Chief Scientist, Institute for Better Health and Senior Vice-President Science, Trillium Health Partners.

This past year, IBH received $11.4 million in research and innovation, submitted 33 competitive funding applications with a success rate of 54 per cent (more than double the national average), led 63 projects, published 165 publications and gave over 200 presentations locally, nationally and internationally.

“At IBH, we are committed to shaping a healthier tomorrow using a learning health systems approach to integrate data and experiences with evidence to continuously inform the health of the population and an equitable approach to care to meet the growing needs of our community. As one of the top five hospitals in research spending growth, we look forward to continuing to invest in the brightest minds and tackling the system’s most challenging issues through research and innovation to create a new kind of health care for a healthier community,” said Dr. Reid.

Through research and innovation in key areas including population health, patient and family centred care, implementation and evaluation science and new models of care, IBH is building capacity to grow and share new knowledge that be applied in the community we serve and beyond to shape a healthier and more equitable tomorrow.
