Mississauga, ON – December 4, 2025 – Trillium Health Partners has once again ranked as one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals. This recognition places Trillium Health Partners and its research hub, the Institute for Better Health, alongside the country’s pre-eminent academic hospitals. The 2025 Research Infosource Inc. rankings are based on data from fiscal year 2024-2025, which Trillium Health Partners submitted in April 2025.

This recognition reflects a new kind of research that is deeply embedded within the hospital and the community. Through a strong academic partnership with the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, the Institute for Better Health brings together leading experts in population health, patient experience, and rapid implementation and evaluation to understand community needs and apply data, evidence, and knowledge in real time.
This year, Trillium Health Partners ranked second overall for year-over-year growth with a 29 per cent increase in research spending. This momentum is driven by a clear strategy: to embed research into care, translating discovery into impact to shape better health for all. Highlights from this past year include:
- The Institute for Better Health submitted and received several competitive grants; published more than 200 academic articles; and delivered over 150 presentations locally, nationally and internationally.
- Trillium Health Partners became the first hospital in Canada to integrate inequity measurements into its operational strategy, setting a precedent for health systems across the country and signaling a more proactive approach to reducing health disparities.
- The Institute for Better Health’s Learning Health System Action Frameworkpublication was named Article of the Year for health services and policy research in Canada.
- Our Scientists have been recognized through several national and international awards, including AMS Healthcare, Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
- Research teams have partnered with patients, caregivers, and community members through several funded projects to break down barriers and co-design health care in areas such as diabetes, cancer and mental health.
