Mississauga, ON December 8, 2023For a second time, Trillium Health Partners (THP) has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals of 2023 by Research Infosource Inc. This recognition places THP and its research and innovation engine, the Institute for Better Health (IBH), alongside preeminent research institutions across the country.

Each year, Research Infosource Inc. ranks the top research hospitals across Canada by looking at the total research spending, number of researchers, research intensity and overall spending. It’s a reminder of the vital role hospitals play in driving health-care innovation and improving health-care outcomes. “We are honoured to be named one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals and to share this recognition with many leading organizations across the country,” says Dr. Robert Reid, Hazel McCallion Research Chair in Learning Health Systems and Chief Scientist, IBH, and Senior Vice-President, Science, THP.

IBH is a core enabler of THP’s mission of a new kind of health care for a healthier community through the application of scientific expertise, innovative thinking, and partnerships. This past year, IBH received $11.8 million in research and innovation, submitted 33 competitive funding applications with a success rate of 54 per cent (more than double the national average), led 63 projects, published 165 publications and gave over 200 presentations locally, nationally and internationally.

“IBH is uniquely positioned to be Canada’s premier institute leading in Learning Health System research and innovation,” says Dr. Reid. “Since its inception in 2014 and going forward, we are continuing to invest in the brightest minds and tackling the system’s most challenging issues to create a new kind of health care for a healthier community.”

Through research and innovation in key areas including population health, patient and family centred care, implementation and evaluation science and new models of care, IBH is building capacity to grow and share new knowledge that be applied in the community we serve and beyond to shape a healthier and more equitable tomorrow.
