We are proud to share that Dr. Laura Rosella, Chief Scientist and Stephen Family Research Chair in Community Health at the Institute for Better Health (IBH), has been awarded the 2025 Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Population and Public Health Mid-Career Trailblazer Award, one of the highest national honours for impact in population and public health research. This prestigious recognition celebrates exceptional leadership, mentorship, innovation and real-world impact on policy and practice.
A globally recognized epidemiologist and bold thinker, Dr. Rosella’s work is deeply connected to creating better health in the community. She is a Professor in the Division of Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto; founder of the Population Health Analytics Lab; and a Canada Research Chair in Population Health Analytics. “I am deeply grateful for this award because it highlights the importance of population health and recognizes the collective dedication of so many working toward a healthier future for all,” says. Dr. Rosella.
Dr. Rosella’s research harnesses data in new and powerful ways ̶ translating insights into solutions that improve population health, reduce inequities and enhance community wellbeing. She has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and earned more than 25 awards and recognitions, including being named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40. As a trailblazer in the use of AI for public health, she co-leads a CIFAR-funded solution network to partner with the community to advance responsible AI for diabetes prevention in Peel Region.
